Whether You’ve Have The V1, V2, Or V3 Wyze Security Cam, We’ve Got Your Reset Covered
The Wyze Cam is a fantastic addition to any home security network. Some work indoors, some work outdoors, they all offer color night vision footage, and they even boast integrated sirens — be gone, ne’er do wells!
However, even though we love the Wyze camera here at Big Home Reviews HQ, as is the case with most technological gadgets and gizmos, they’re not completely foolproof.
It’s a rarity, but sometimes, there can be an error or a bug in the Wyze system that causes some strange behavior, such as a timing out or frozen screen, or a “Network Not Stable” alert.
Sometimes the problem can be solved by a troubleshooting session. For example, failure to link up to the live stream usually just means you need to disconnect your Wyze cam from the network, turn it off, turn it back on, then hook it back up to your Wi-Fi network.
But for more persistent service issues, there’s really no substitute for a hard factory reset, which is what we’re going to be guiding you through here today.
Why Is It A Good Idea To Reset A Wyze Cam?
No matter what issues you’re having with your Wyze Cam, a factory reset will sort them out in a flash, saving you the hassle of a lengthy troubleshooting session. Sometimes, however, a full reset is the only way to get your security cam back in working order.
What Is A Factory Reset?
A factory reset is a technological rebirth of sorts. Basically, it erases any changes made to an item since leaving the factory. After which, if all goes to plan, your Wyze Cam will then work just as it did when it was fresh from the factory.
You’ll lose all your custom settings, which is kind of irritating, but if it revives a malfunctioning camera and saves you a few bucks on a replacement, then a few minutes of recalibration is a small price to pay.
How To Factory Reset A V1 Wyze Cam
Let’s start at the beginning with the very first Wyze release. Here’s how to trigger a factory reset on the V1…
- Remove the microSD card.
For those that don’t know, the microSD card in a Wyze Cam can be found by removing the baseplate. Once you’ve located it, simply push into it to eject it as if it were a Nintendo Switch game.
- Plug Your Wyze Cam V1 into a power source.
- Press and hold the “Setup” button for 20 seconds.
Again, this can be found beneath the baseplate of the camera.
- Wait for initiation to complete.
Initiation can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, so feel free to make yourself a snack while you wait. Initiation is signaled by a solid yellow status light. Once it starts blinking, you’re clear to set the device back up again.
How To Factory Reset A V2 Or Pan Wyze Cam
Triggering a factory reset isn’t much different for the V2 and Pan, as it is for the V1, but let’s run through it step by step anyway for clarity’s sake.
- Remove the microSD card.
The SD card can be found underneath the baseplate of both the V2 and Pan, just as it can be in the V1. Push down on the card to eject it, then set it down somewhere safe.
- Connect it to an outlet.
- Press the “Setup” button and hold it for 5 seconds.
Find the setup button under the baseplate.
- Wait for your camera to finish initiation.
Again, this can take anywhere between 30 seconds to 5 minutes, so make yourself a cup of Joe. The solid yellow status light indicates that initiation is in progress, while a blinking yellow light tells you that the camera is ready for action.
How To Factory Reset A V3 Wyze Cam
Now let’s tackle the latest Wyze offering, the Wyze Cam V3. You can reset your V3 by…
- Removing the microSD card.
The micro SD card of the V3 can be found behind the baseplate.
- Plugging the camera into a power source.
- Pushing and holding the setup button for 10 seconds.
It can be found under the baseplate.
- Allowing time for the initiation process.
During initiation, the status light will be solid red. Once completed, the light will start to blink. This may take up to 5 minutes.
Can You Factory Reset A Wyze Outdoor Camera?
Unfortunately, for security purposes, Wyze didn’t include a hard reset function on their Outdoor Cam, as it could simply be triggered by intruders, allowing them to roam freely on your property.
In the absence of a reset function, your best bet is to power cycle the camera, which simply means to turn it off and then on again. The power switch can be found on the back of the unit.
Why Won’t My Wyze Cam Pan Reset?
Sometimes, the Wyze Pan Cam doesn’t take too kindly to a hard reset. Not to worry, though. Just hit it with this manual flashing protocol.
- Download a Wyze firmware version of your choice.
- Log the firmware files on the microSD card’s root directory.
- Turn the Pan off.
- Insert the SD card with the firmware files into the camera.
- Plug in the USB cable while holding the setup button.
- Hold the setup button until the status light is solid blue. It usually takes around 6 seconds.
- Release the setup button.
- Wait 5 minutes for initiation to complete.
- The blue status light should start blinking, indicating that the camera has been reset and rebooted.
How To Reset Wyze Cam — Summing Up
That’s really all there is to it! Triggering a factory reset in your Wyze Cam will almost always solve any service problems you’re experiencing.
Just remember to wait until you see the flashing light before disconnecting your Wyze Cam and setting it back up again. Doing so will create a corrupted file, and you’ll have to restart the whole process.
